Google a photo of bituminous coal. When I'm creating art in the CARBON style, in my imagination I am creating art with that type of rock. Primitive, jagged, heavy and black. Suddenly, I am as much hunter as artist. Reason and precision fades, traded for another more brutal weapon. Inexact and uninhibited, driven by instinct, enslaved by emotions I can barely articulate, my hand slashes outwardly, making each line. Intuition without source takes charge. Unusual angles appear, shadows descend and suddenly it feels like I am cave painting. And for a while I am the prototype, the first conscious upright shadow, the forgotten beast/genius. Dig it.
